Who really runs it?

Women running it!

Listen (to you who runs it)

So the other day I heard the number of schoolgirl pregnancies is still skyrocketing despite the effort. Well, it will always be like that as far as this woman understands. To the girl running the world or running alone against it, Who really runs it?

What about you?

As a father? Mother? Aunt? Uncle? Parent or guardian to a daughter out there?

Governments hear this, as long as a girl gets pregnant rape not being the main reason it’s the girl’s own decision. The public and law threats of a “30 years sentence” and such policies will not work as a wand on them.

Ladies, Are you running it or running away from it?

Women, reading my post, I believe we all have a place we once belonged to as secondary/high school scholars. When did you ever go back to your school and talk to those girls who are just getting started on their journey to maturity, with all the feelings bursting up and starting eying that cute guy in the class thinking he’s the prince charming???

What about women and men in churches and other places of worship? What about community leaders? Does the responsibility only to those with titles? Do you need an organisation to hold a girls talk/platform? Encouraging? Motivating? Teaching? Warning? Do we do these enough?

Those girls need to be told the truth about life, boys are there from kindergarten to the universities where you get to meet men in the workplace. This is a decision every single girl should make if she wants to reach further and even beyond the sky.

And I am talking to women because they are what those girls need to hear, see and talk to as society models apart from having parents and female relatives who are ashamed of talking about sex and being a woman thinking, ‘ she will figure it out’ well she did and that is why she is out of school now pregnant.

Girl, I dare you to dream of a better you before a better world for the better you make a better world.

Who is at fault?

I hear daily the girls saying they were lied to. Well, we all got lied to but didn’t fall into the valley for some reason but if you hear more than 150 students in the same school got lied to…!!! The problem may be no more lies but the people lied to! And that’s a situation worth the question, who really runs it?

A former president once commented on school pregnancies and the right to education. Mr President said about not having the pregnant girls back to school and the tension between women and the community was enraged saying it was not the right thing to do. Was it the right thing for school girls to engage in sexual activities? Is it right these days? Why a change of thought? Need to please the majority?

The majority (who runs)

I remember this incident because I was with one of my classmates and a friend who happens to be a young woman then. I supported the President, and she did not. Well, the problem is not with girls not being allowed to go to school, the problem is girls being allowed to go back to school after getting pregnant. It’s the pregnancy that’s the problem, not school. Who ruins it instead? Who runs it, really?

By the way, what’s this about being right or wrong in Mr President’s statement? The wrong is a girl engaging in sexual activities knowing that it will result in pregnancies. Don’t tell me they did not know, well maybe if they are in schools located in the villages and if what’s taught in villages and towns is different. In this age of science and communication, with girls growing up fast and bigger than before, it has become more of a choice. A choice no one but the girl can choose to pick, make it ruin you or you run it.

I remember 17 years ago I was in my class 6 (grade 6). I remember how we were excitedly going through the pages of the science book waiting for the reproduction topic. The teacher was not so friendly but the lesson was clear. And at the age of 12, I was taught what happens if you sleep with a man after the first menstruation period. And even with protective measures, the only 100% sure way to stay safe is to not engage at all.

That was not enough; we got a chance to have a seminar with ladies from ‘Always’ the sanitary products company. Each girl was provided with 1 to 2 packs of pads if you were not or already in her period. At that very age, you understand what it meant. Even if you had a mama who thought you will figure it out yourself. Well some of us did so can anyone else. Though it is not easy or difficult, it is not magic needing mastery.

To the girl who wants to run it!

To reduce pregnancy rates in Tanzania, policies, come second. Second, after the girl makes her own decision not to engage in sexual activities. Policies and laws are there to support her decision. That is if any man 18 lures her, it is rape for she still is a kid and needs society’s support.

So girl, go be a better you, only you can be. No one is going to stand for your dream but you. No one is going to understand that it was an accident. If it was never rape. But if you think you’re 18 and ready for marriage that is awesome. The world is a strange place that supports any ridiculous decision you make for yourself.

If you have got wings, why not fly?

After all, the world is beyond the horizon!

Who really runs it?
