Joy like in little children, embraces it, be it.

Even when life seems a little chaotic, joy is something you should never let go. You know, sometimes life throws us curveballs, but guess what? We’ve got an incredible reference book—playbook—the Bible—that teaches us how to find joy during chaos. When everything seems to fall apart, there are many things you should never find a reason to throw them or give them up. Joy is one of them.
How do you then find joy when life tells, teaches and gives you a different experience?

1. Finding Joy in Gratitude

Imagine this: You’re stuck in the middle of a storm, but you find a cosy spot to sit and start making a list of all the awesome things you’re thankful for. In the Bible, Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us to present our worries to God with thanksgiving. When we focus on what’s good and express gratitude, joy begins to bubble up inside us like fizzy soda!

So, grab a journal, and let’s start jotting down the little (and big) things that make your heart smile. Your gratitude list will be your secret weapon against chaos! And that will always be a reminder, If He, God did it then He won’t fail now. That’s a powerful testimony and stand. Nothing will ever shake you.

2. Joyful Tunes in the Storm

Picture this scene: You’re facing a rough day, and suddenly, you put on your favourite upbeat playlist. I am not sure what worship or praise song you tune in to when you need that reminder but, one of those many for me is Open Doors by Ada Ehi. So, whenever I feel like I can push no more or so down, I tune in and play it.

In the Bible, we see David, a teenage shepherd turned king, finding joy through music and worship. Psalms 98:4 says, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music.”

Create your playlist of joy! Whether it’s praising God through worship songs or dancing to your favourite faith-based beats, let the music be a force back to your anchor in the storm. Your heart will be singing along in no time just like the Psalmist (David) says, You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.

You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.

3. Spreading Joy Through Acts of Kindness

Imagine a world where everyone spreads joy like confetti! In the Bible, Proverbs 11:25 tells us, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” When we share kindness and joy with others, it’s like planting seeds of happiness that grow and bloom in our hearts.

Challenge yourself to perform one act of kindness each day, whether it’s a smile, a kind word, or lending a helping hand. Watch how joy blossoms not just in others but within you too!

Growing up I was someone who always walked looking down, my gaze was always on the ground. It was not because I was shy or scared, I just didn’t want to look anywhere else. Once in a while, I looked ahead just to make sure, there weren’t so many people from a distance. But I realised something when I started walking and looked ahead.

Relationships are about connection. And connection begins with eye contact. Although of course eye contact is not the only and basic. When you look at people in the eye, when you look at people, when you see people. It builds. Not only others but yourself as well. A smile here, noticing someone there, we connect.

In today’s world where everyone is busy with gadgets, scrolling and buttonless screens, we fail to notice people around us. People whom God has placed in different locations to meet, learn from them and teach them something. Failing to see, and notice these people, we fail to see WHAT God want us to do.

The next time you are on the road, in a group of people or even at the park, remember to look around and see what and who is around you. The world is moving fast but online, when you are close to people, near nature, always be open to seeing, hearing and listening to what God is sharing.

Joy. Joy is not a feeling. It is more like peace, something without a reason. A silent celebration that grows when you believe He is and wake up daily choosing Him, to walk beside and with Him. To live. Be alive. Being present. Joy is a fruit. It takes time to develop and ripe. And when we walk following the Holy Spirit’s leads, we learn how to become it.

So there you have it, incredible—three actual ways to cultivate joy even when the storm is raging. Remember, joy isn’t just a feeling; it’s a choice we make every day. Let’s face the chaos with gratitude, music, and kindness, and watch how our joy becomes a ray of light in the darkest of times.

Stay joyful, stay amazing!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope and love.
