Faith is an integral aspect of the Christian faith. It gives us hope, strength, and the courage to face life’s challenges. Faith helps us see the possible in the impossible and able even in situations that we never know how we are going to go through at the end of everything. However, faith alone is insufficient. And according to James 2:14-26, faith without works is dead.
Faith must always be accompanied by action. Faith ought to come with actions. While we want to see things work, we want to hang into the fact that God is doing something brand new even when we don’t see (but perceive He is). How do we make it all be as how God intended!? We obey and do the Word, we bring His Word to life by acting as commanded and directed.
The Bible emphasizes the importance of faith and works. The Bible implies that true faith is demonstrated by our actions and not just our words. We are called to live out our faith practically. While we believe in loving ourselves, our neighbours are ways to loving God. So, how do we then love our neighbours as ourselves and how do we love Christ? We live the Word.
Faith & Work Daily
Faith is not merely an intellectual agreement or an emotion; it is the foundation of who we are as Christians. However, the Bible stresses that faith without works is not enough. We must demonstrate our faith with actions that reflect Christ’s love and teachings. One of the best ways to combine faith with work is by volunteering and serving in your community.
Volunteering (and giving) your time, resources, and skills to help others is a concrete way of expressing your faith. It is practical Christianity and a way of showing Christ’s love to others. Whether it’s serving in a soup kitchen, visiting the sick, or volunteering in a children’s home, there are different ways you can make a difference in people’s lives.
Luke 14:12-14
Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Whether it is cooking food at home and buying blankets and supplying to those who are homeless, or whether it is offering your home to those who are seeking shelter for some time as they are going through challenges. Volunteering goes way beyond offering time, resources and presence or attention.
Serving in your community also provides an opportunity for fellowship and building relationships with others. You get to meet and work with different people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, an experience that enriches your faith journey. Serving has proven to be one of the ways that we serve God.
Matthew 23:11 - The greatest among you will be your servant.
Proverbs 19:17 - Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,
and he will reward them for what they have done.
Faith in Careers and Businesses.
Incorporating faith into your career and business is another way of combining faith with work. As Christians, we are called to work diligently, honestly, and ethically while demonstrating Christ’s love in our workplaces. By doing this, we become salt and light in the world and impact the lives of our colleagues, clients, and stakeholders positively.
Integrating faith into your career and business can also provide new opportunities to share your faith with others. It’s an opportunity to lead by example, be a witness to the gospel, and demonstrate the practical aspects of Christianity. Combining faith with works strengthens your relationship with God. Nothing fosters a deeper connection with God than sincerely living out your faith. As you serve others, you sharpen your spiritual senses, and you become more sensitive to God’s voice and leading. You become more aware of God’s presence and build a deeper intimacy with God.
What to remember!
Having faith with work makes a positive impact on the world. We live in a world that is filled with pain, suffering, and injustice, and we are called to make a difference. When we serve and help others, we spread hope, love, and compassion, and we make the world a better place. A life that combines faith with works is a life of significance, purpose, and meaning.
Combining faith with works is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. It means we must live out our faith practically by being the hands and feet of Christ in the world. It means taking action to make a difference in people’s lives, starting in our communities. The benefits of combining faith with works are immense, from strengthening your relationship with God to making a positive impact on the world.
What to remember most is, it is in these two where we remind others that no matter where they are or have been, trusting in God and working hard to be and become in alignment with who God says we are is what makes life better and of purpose. In addition, it is what makes it possible to overcome addictions, diseases and develop better relations with ourselves and others.
May we all strive to breathe life into our faith by demonstrating it daily through our works.
